In 1863 a group of local businessmen who used to meet at the Clarendon Hotel in Oxford decided to form a club. This was essentially for the purposes of networking and discussions on matters relating to developments in and around the City of Oxford. They called it the Clarendon Club.
Today the Club has a social and networking focus and is based at Oxford Golf Club, Hill Top Road, Headington.

Members regularly meet for informal and formal social gatherings and activities in and around Oxford. The Club also has bridge, golf and snooker sections. Some Club events, such as monthly Club suppers, Punch Night and the Annual Dinner continue as traditional Members only occasions. However, many of the Club’s other events are open to Members and their partners and guests. These events include special lunches and dinners, theatre trips, bridge, along with walks and visits to museums and country houses and gardens which are often followed by lunch at a country pub.
